Marie & Brian' Engagement (and our 100th post!)

A few weeks ago, we drove up to Burlington to photograph Marie & Brian's Life Engagement session. We're always looking for reasons to get out of Seattle for our Life sessions and since they both grew up in Burlington (and swore they'd never marry someone from their hometown--LOL), this was the perfect opportunity!

Of course, the NW rain couldn't resist joining us, but Marie & Brian kept playing and we kept playing (I mean, working) and we all had a great time! They showed us their BEAUTIFUL wedding venue on Puget Sound (they'll be getting married there this July--you definitely don't want to miss those photos!), then we drove over to the historic town of La Conner (where we captured some of our favorite images from the day, while also finding time to eat some delicious homemade ice cream), and finished at a relative's house on Brian's 4-wheeler (we even got to take a drive!). It was a great day and we were sad to see it end, but the good part is that we now have some sweet images to share with you--enjoy!

This is probably one of my most favorite life sessions, simply because Marie & Brian's passion for life and each other emerges so vividly in the images that we captured. I can't wait to photograph their wedding and share in the joy of their special day with them!

Sarah & Dione (aka "Ricardo")

The wedding we photographed last Saturday was an incredible experience! It was our first time photographing a Filipino wedding, and it was exciting to see how much of their culture was woven into the day. Not only that, but there were so many great moments during their wedding day--I think one of our favorites was when Dione sung to Sarah right in the middle of the ceremony. I don't think there was a dry eye in the church. :)

Another of our favorites moments was the money dance Filipino style--the guests actually planned ahead and made rings, crowns, flowers and veils out of money and then they would pin or tape it to the bride and groom's clothing in exchange for a dance. This was only one of the MANY ways that we witnessed the overwhelming love and support that Sarah & Dione's family and friends had for them. It was truly inspiring.

Here are a few highlights from the day, with more to come in the slideshow...

Congratulations Sarah and Dione--have fun in Hawaii!

Airika's Birthday!

For those of you who didn't know, yesterday was Airika's brithday! WOOHOO!! Last night we went out to the Melting Pot with a couple close friends to celebrate. It was our first time going to the there, and it was so much fun! Airika and I are big dessert fans, especially when it comes to chocolate, so this was really a special treat. It was actually a nice, relaxing evening that gave us an opportunity to think back over the last year and see how much we have changed and grown.

We really have been blessed in so many ways. I cannot express how grateful I am to have Airika by my side. She is amazing. I would be totally lost without her, and just in case there was ever and doubt, there would be no Gerald Pope Photography without Airika! If it weren't for her, I'd probably still be parking cars in Nashville... not that there's anything wrong with that. :)

Anyway, Airika may be another year older, but that doesn't mean we'll be acting like it any time soon. We are doing our fair share to keep our youthful spirits alive and well! To help in the cause, I got her a Wii for her birthday. Yeah! (OK, OK, I got myself a Wii and I let her unwrap it, just don't tell her! ;)

Happy Birthday Airika! I love you!!!

Hittin' the town with Gina and Greg

Meet Gina and Greg. These guys rock! From the very beginning when we started talking about their engagement session, they made it very clear that they loved our fun, fresh style and wanted us to just do our thing. Music to our ears!!! The only real request they had was to include a shot of the Seattle skyline. So, we headed for Alki/West Seattle for some fun!

Before we get to the pictures, I have to tell you that Gina and Greg have one of the best engagement stories I have ever heard! They could certainly tell it better than we could, but I will do my best to give you a brief synopsis of the most important part. First off, they like to do crossword puzzles together. Like, hard crossword puzzles. (They are smart people). Greg, on top of planning a lot of other romantic things, wrote a crossword puzzle for her, and mixed in with the answers were the words Gina, Will, You, Marry Me. Here's the thing, it wasn't some cheesy little kids' crossword puzzle. It was a full-on crossword puzzle--clues, answers, the whole thing. He took the puzzle, put it in the New York Times, and photocopied it so that it just looked like a photocopy of the puzzle section of the NYT. Gina thought she was doing the NYT crossword the whole time... until she filled in the answers! Brilliant! Greg, you are the MAN!

Congratulations Gina & Greg--we can't wait for your wedding!

Kelly & Patrick's Wedding Slideshow

For those of you who don't live in the Seattle area, you missed out on some crazy weather here a couple weeks ago! Kelly and Patrick got married on April 18th, and we had a lovely mixture of snow, hail, rain, and even lightning to cap off a perfectly unusual day. It was a special treat for the Aussies who were attending, since many of them had never seen snow before. Despite the weather, Kelly and Patrick savoured every second of their day as if there wasn't a care in the world!
