Amazing Winter Wedding!

I can't believe how lucky Airika and I were to meet Elizabeth and Steven. They truly are an amazing couple, and photographing their wedding today was a total blast. Not only that, but we were fortunate enough to have the beautifully snow-covered University of Washington campus all to ourselves. I just couldn't wait to show you an image from their wedding, so here's one of my favorites...

Congratulations Elizabeth and Steven--have fun at Disney World!

Airika & Gerald

P.S. Justin wrote a cute little story about how he and kristin met 'a la Microsoft,' and since we reside in Microsoft land (Redmond, WA), we decided to share it with you. I can't imagine a more beautiful place for a "first date." ;) Enjoy!

________________________________________________
The Microsoft Intern Barbeque held at Bill Gates’ house each year is usually the chance for graduating Microsoft hopefuls to crowd around Uncle Bill and hope for a chance to pop big questions and win his attention and respect. But for first day intern Kristin Theinert and two time intern Justin Swan there was someone far more important than the richest man in the world at the Gates Manor that fateful day. While most every other intern was hustling for attention in a mosh pit of techies, Justin and Kristin were clinking glasses and getting to know each other while lounging by poolside at the other end of the mansion.

Hours later, after their romantic soiree de Microsoft and a couple minor run-ins with Mr. Gates’ private security team, their fates were sealed. From that point on the two were an inseparable duo spreading their mischief across the city. They continued their romantic soirees, taking them on the road to all over Europe and recently Puerto Rico. Like all the other interns at the barbeque three years ago, during this Puerto Rican adventure, Justin had a big question to ask. It wasn’t “do you own an ipod??” or “considering the ramifications of a decentralized storage model how do you see Microsoft competing in the Server Based Services market??”; it wasn’t even a question for old Bill. It was a question for Kristin, and he finally got to ask it, and Kristin said “yes!”

Galyn & Michael

While everyone else was out taking advantage of the amazing "Black Friday" shopping deals, Galyn & Michael were excitedly preparing for one of the biggest days of their lives. They were married the next day at the Hollywood Schoolhouse in Woodinville, WA, and we got to tag along to document their day for them! It was a beautiful, fun, and lively event--and we can honestly say that we've never seen that many guests on the dancefloor at one time. :)

A little wedding karaoke is good for the soul!!!

Congratulations Galyn & Michael!

Lodging for Destination Weddings

Planning a destination wedding presents some unique challenges, especially when it comes to finding lodging, transportation, and entertainment for all of your guests. One of our 2009 brides (Jordan, getting married in Maui) recently shared a resource with us that we simply couldn't keep to ourselves! It's called Vacation Rental by Owner (VRBO). VRBO is a comprehensive listing of over 110,000 vacation homes and condos that are available for daily, weekly, and monthly rental all over the world. Most of the listings show photos, complete amenity lists (which are usually better and less expensive than the local hotel's offerings), ideas/links to recreational activities, and reviews by other travelers who have stayed there. The rates are usually quite reasonable, and since most rentals have a full kitchen, you can save a little money on food as well. :) So, if you're planning a destination wedding, or if you're just looking for a different kind of lodging experience on your next vacation, you'll definitely want to check out VRBO!

Mackenzie & Brian's Wedding Slideshow

The newly married Mackenzie and Brian are heading out on another incredible journey together. It's only been a few weeks since their wedding, and they've already moved far away from Seattle to serve as leaders at a YWAM DTS school in Hawaii. While I'm sure they'll be living a pretty sweet life in Kona, I know that moving away from your family and friends is never easy. Mackenzie & Brian, I hope that whenever you get lonely or homesick, you will cuddle up together and click the link to your slideshow so that you can laugh and smile and cry through your beautiful wedding day all over again. Thank you again for inviting us to share in it with you. We love you both and can't wait to hear about all of your crazy adventures!

Kristin & Justin--A Seattle Wedding Preview

Kristin and Justin are an amazing couple. We clicked with them from our very first meeting, and over the past few months, we've really become great friends. First off, Airika and I love board games, and Justin and Kristin have one of the most interesting and extensive collection of boardgames I've ever heard of. Toss in the fact that they are cool people to hang out with, AND they totally connect with our passion and vision for photography, and you can see why we like them so much!

Heading into their wedding, the forecast predicted rain, rain and then some more rain, while daylight savings snatched away an hour of daylight. This would certainly be a challenge since their ceremony didn't start until 7pm, but we came prepared to do lots of off-camera lighting, just in case. To quote Yervant, (in his charming Auzie accent) "I always shoot with available light, but when light is not available, I bring the light." Thankfully, the rain held off, and all of the time we've spent reading Strobist paid off.

We started out at the South lake Union Park...

For this shot, Kristin had to get a little adverturous and daring. There wasn't a ramp or stairs leading down to this lovely little dock. The only way down was to go around an access gate, and drop down about 4 feet from a ledge onto the dock, hoping all the while that she doesn't brush against the grungy ledge, or worse yet, fall into the lake!

Then, on to Post Alley, down below Pike Place Market...

We started off shooting with available light, but the texture of the cobblestone was completely lost with all the flat overhead light. What to do? We called the driver down so we could use his headlights for some directional light and check out the results!

For their guestbook, Kristin and Justin had an antique typewriter for people to type messages on. So creative!

Justin+Kristin!

Kristin specifically requested a "bad@$$" photo of all the guys. I'm just glad these guys are my friends...

Justin and Kristin, we had a wonderful day with you. In fact, when we got in our car to head home, I think Airika's words were, "Now THAT's why we photograph weddings!"

Subscribing to our blog feed

Hi everybody! We recently discovered that the RSS feed on our blog wasn't working, so we uninstalled and reinstalled it to a new location. We even added an awesome "subscribe by email" feature, but now the problem is that everyone who was previsouly subscribed to our blog no longer receives our updates! So, if you'd like to be notified when we post new images to our blog, all you have to do is select one of the options to the right (RSS or email updates) and you will be added to the list.

Internet...sigh.

Hi everybody!

This is just a quick little note to let you know that our internet is currently down. We still have email access through our phones (yay for iPhones!), but we can't post any photos or slideshows until our internet is restored. We're working hard to figure out the problem, so hopefully we'll be putting more of your beautiful images on here soon! Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding. We appreciate you!

Get Hitched, Give Hope: Tomorrow Night!

Hello blog friends!

Tomorrow night, Gerald and I will be attending a Bridal Event called
Get Hitched, Give Hope! It's a fabulous cocktail party fundraiser happening on October 23 at the Dome Room of the Arctic Club in Seattle. Brides, grooms, and guests will have the opportunity to indulge in sips and sweets while they mingle with wedding vendors, shop for gorgeous wedding day goods, and give to a great cause.

Some of Seattle's wedding professionals will be donating their services for a silent auction, and brides will be able to get wedding services that they need, all while giving back to a great cause: the proceeds from the silent auction go to
Brides Against Breast Cancer and the Making Memories Foundation. Even though there were no more booth/donation spaces left for photographers, we wanted to show our support for the cause, so if any of our current brides attend, we have a little something that we'd like to give you. :)

With your help, the founders of Get Hitched, Give Hope, hope to raise $50,000 to grant wishes for breast cancer patients and their families. Please join us to toast to this wonderful cause!

Emily Robert: A preview

If you've ever heard someone talk about childlike faith, Emily & Robert's love for each other is kind of like that. It's selfless, grace-filled, full of hope, and always seeking to find the best in the other. I was so touched by the raw sincerity of their love, that I was brought to tears several times on their wedding day.

Emily & Robert, hold on to the true gift of love that you share. It is truly special and inspiring.

Airika
